In Ephemeral Light: Three Visions of the Cape
Well-known painter Tatjana Krizmanic will show figurative and abstract oil paintings, and pastels, that comprise her response to the light and landscape of the Outer Cape. Tatjana hails from Croatia and has paint- ed since her youth along the Adriatic nation’s lush and picturesque coast. She found Cape Cod at first to be a stark contrast. But over multiple visits a “certain simplicity and purity” began to speak to her in the Cape’s open spaces, softer shapes, and more subtle colors, and especially the quality of light. Water, too, is everywhere, even in the light; the Cape’s simplicity hides what is an ever-shifting world of dunes, chang- ing shorelines, and fertile micro-climates. In her third body of Cape paintings, she had
chosen the Cape’s unique ephemera as subject
matter. Her figurative work features lighter hues than the primary colors of her earlier work, impressionistic technique, and a more solitary and contemplative point of view. The work speaks of moments of perception that embrace this naturally powerful environment
of intermingling forces and elements. The abstract work takes that experience further as it seeks to capture through a different visual language the raw immediacy and feeling the landscape engenders. Three Visions of the Cape represents Tatjana’s own evolution of appreciation as much as does it her response to Cape Cod as an alluring artistic and natural environment.
Born in Zagreb, Tatjana started painting at age fourteen. After studying at the Uni- versity of Zagreb, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she completed her studies at Georgetown University. Over the next ten years she created paintings for friends and patrons, while working as an art director. Since her first exhibit in Boulder, Colorado, she has built a strong following, and her paintings reside in numerous private collections and museums. Her work is shown in galleries in United States, Canada, Europe and Japan. Krizmanic divides her time between her home on the Adriatic coast of Croatia and Boulder, Colorado in the United States.
