being social

Have you found us on Facebook and Twitter?
We noticed on the gallery's Facebook account that there's a place to upload newsletter contacts so we can extend an invitation to connect on social media sites.
It seemed like a good idea, except that we promised to take good care of your email address.
So we're extending the invitation here: Would you like to join us on Facebook and Twitter? You'll get a glimpse of the gallery, an insider's view of the Cape and a taste of a few of our favorite things on any given day.
Eric Beck installs new fish
(Eric Beck, hanging more Steampunk fish because they swim really fast.)
We post when new things come into the gallery, share information on what's going on in our community and try to make your newsfeed a more beautiful place (without cluttering your inbox).
What Labor Day looked like in Wellfleet
On twitter we found out we were #1 on the Cape Cod A-list and discovered one of our Earth & Fire seagulls had made it on Apartment Therapy. Just this morning, we made friends with a quahog.
Won't you join us online? Click the photos above to go to Facebook and Twitter. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

Shop online!

We're online!

Okay, yes, we've been online for awhile or you wouldn't be reading this. But now we're really online - with a new shopping site. It's almost like being here (in your pajamas).

Come on by! and tell us what you think....

where we are

In the words of Monty Python, we're not dead yet!

Late last year, we decided it was time to close the Orleans gallery. We put the building on the market and started saying our goodbyes.

Since it's easier to sell than pack, we kept the gallery open whenever anyone needed to be in the building. We had a great January. And then we had a great February. While the building hasn't sold, a lot of paintings, jewelry and crafts have!

For those of you who have not had the chance to stop us in the grocery store and ask what on earth is going on with the gallery: we're still here.

So please, stop by! Stock up on gifts! Buy a painting! Or buy the building, if you'd like. It's a beauty.

Orleans

I am getting ready to send out a newsletter announcing the closing of our Orleans gallery. Although I don't work there very often anymore, I still feel a strong connection to that particular spot on our planet and cannot believe that the end of this era has come.

I will, of course, have to give my key back. It was the first copy made and is printed with #1. I don't know why, but I always felt it was quite an honor to be the keeper of the #1 key.

When I think about that gallery, I think about how everything was so shiny and new after the renovation. I try to remember what it looked like when there were still concrete floors with drains in the center, but it's a stretch. I remember Audrey walking around with floor samples and paint swatches for months.

They were finishing the work while we were moving in. We put down paper walkways so we wouldn't scratch those beautiful cherry floors. We started on displays in the front, as the flooring people worked their way out the back door. We got the last display put together just in time for our gala reopening.

One of the contractors gave us a set of plastic bowling pins to use in the painting gallery.

I was managing the gallery when I got engaged. And married. My first baby went to work with me. Things grow. Things change. Things close.

But the love that goes into things? And the passion that fueled the initial idea? That still lingers, waiting to light on the next page of the story.

Niche Award!

We've been named one of NICHE magazine's Top Retailer of 2008 . We'd like to thank our producers, our stylists, our publicists and the folks who dust our shelves. Except we don't have any of that (except the dusting part), so we really need to thank our artists. They're the ones, after all, who nominated us.

"This awards program honors galleries and retailers for their commitment to supporting the artists." said Wendy Rosen, publisher of NICHE magazine. "It's not about the biggest sellers or fanciest shops. The Top Retailers are often mentors who work hard to build and maintain good relationships with emerging and established artists."

We're so glad someone noticed.

Check out the (surprisngly short) list of Top Retailers at www.AmericanCraft.com. Not only are we listed on their website, they gave us a fancy award to display. Come by and see it, won't you?

so long!

Our summer friends are going back to whatever they do in the winter - school, travel, life. Many thanks to them for a great summer. And many thanks to the folks who stay with us year round. Left Bank wouldn't be the same without your humor and grace.

Here's some of our Wellfleet crew, supporting local business (Mac's Shack). Just doing our bit to help! We recommend the tuna mango martini.
