Staff Picks: Susan
Remember that fantasy where you're sitting with the FAO Schwartz catalog and someone tells you to pick ANYTHING you want? I sometimes have that at work. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone who works here does, so I thought I'd start a Staff Picks series.
I've asked everyone for their wishlists, but in the meantime, I'll go first. Here's what currently makes me giddy.
Right outside the office door is this painting by Ellen Rolli:
I hide out in the office a lot, so I get to look at it most of the day. Handy, that.
I have already gone on and on about my new found love of woodfired pottery. I can't go to Commercial Street without snooping around for a new piece of this or that. There's currently a shallow Dog Bar bowl I'm eyeing. I am also devotedly smitten with Liz Kinder and Thea Tenenbaum in Orleans.
There is a Bill Starke sculpture in the front window at Cove Road right now that's pretty great. We don't have pictures of the ones we have (bad, bad webmaster. No cookie) but this is what it looks like:
I've had a Terri Logan river rock bracelet on my wishlist for ages, in case my husband gets especially desperate at birthdays and giftie holidays:
And I have a standing order for Hessel candlesticks:
Well that about scratches the surface. More later.
Oh, and I thought we should introduce ourselves as we go. I'm the webmaster and also the media liason and marketing person. If it's about the gallery, it's my job (if it's in the gallery, that's someone else. You'll meet them too).
Mary Bourke to Wellfleet
Every once in a while we move things around just to keep you on your toes. Most recently, we've moved all of Mary Bourke's paintings to the Commercial Street gallery, where she'll have her show next summer.
It's been interesting watching people respond to the art currently at Cove Road, in the Small Treasures show. With the majority of our artists represented in one place, our guests have an overview of what they may have missed in the two Wellfleet galleries.
And thanks to Douglas Karlson at the Cape Codder for writing such a nice article about our show! We're sure it helped - the gala opening was packed. We have pictures that we'll post soon.

Views of the Gallery

Here are a few shots of the Small Treasures show in the Orleans Gallery.
The official opening reception (Gala! Holiday! Opening!) is tomorrow evening from 4 to 7pm. Surely you can leave your turkey leftovers for a few hours and drop by for a visit?

treasures everywhere
I am sitting in the back room of the Orleans gallery, ogling the paintings. There are close to a hundred, with a huge range of styles. The images range from 4"x4" to probably 8"x10" (framed sizes vary). We had no idea how on target we were when we called this show Small Treasures. It looks like a treasure chest exploded in here!
We even have some sculptures from Arthur Bauman:
I have several artists to post on the website today, so be sure to refresh the page periodically.

even more Small Treasures

We can't believe the response we've gotten from the artists. So many people are sending paintings for our Small Treasures show, which opens November 10. We're putting them up on the site as quickly as we can. Be sure to scroll down, since there are new paintings added throughout the page. We've also received images from Carol Odell, Jamie Johnson, Kate Nelson and Audrey Heard, plus a couple more from Del-Bourree Bach. And several more artists tell us they have work on the way. We can't wait to see it all hanging together!
